If you are
connecting from a UF computer (on campus, at an IFAS Research
Center, etc.), you are ready to begin searching below.
If you are connecting from off campus:
- Are you using the UF
VPN? -- If so, you are ready to begin searching
above.
- Are you already
logged on to the Library Proxy? If so, you may begin searching above. See
Library Proxy Alert! below.
-
To connect through UF using the Library Proxy,
Logon
Now.
After successfully logging on, click the link to Google Scholar™ to return to this screen and begin searching
above. See
Library Proxy Alert! below.
Library Proxy Alert!
For the best experience linking to UF Libraries' licensed resources using SFX@UF links in Google Scholar™ when connected through the Library Proxy, it is strongly recommended that after your first search results are displayed, you select Scholar Preferences (adjacent to the search box) and set up to "Open search results in a new browser window".
Even if you have set this up when connected from a UF computer, you may need to do it again when logged on via the Library Proxy.
See a fuller explanation, and more information about SFX@UF below.

Accessing
Full Text Resources Licensed by the UF Libraries
using SFX@UF in Google Scholar™
|
The
UF Libraries
have partnered with Google so that SFX@UF links now appear in Google Scholar™
results lists. These links route users to the UF Libraries' SFX
service menu, which enables checking to see if access to full text has
been
licensed by the UF Libraries (and connecting to it if it does), or if
the item
may be available within a UF library.
What needs
to be done to set up access
to SFX@UF through Google Scholar™? |
- When you are
connected from a UF computer (on campus, at an IFAS Research
Center, etc.) -- or
when
connecting from off campus
using the UF VPN the SFX@UF links
should automatically appear
within Google Scholar™ search results.
- However,
when off campus and wanting to connect using the Library Proxy
(EZproxy), please
follow these steps:
- Log on to the
Library Proxy
(EZproxy).
- Once successfully logged on,
select Google Scholar.
- Strongly
recommended! Click
"Scholar Preferences" adjacent to the search box, select "Open search
results in a new browser window" on the
preferences screen, and click "Save
Preferences".
Why
do this?
Staying connected to your Library Proxy
(EZproxy) session requires that you link only to pages that have been
set up for recognition by the Library Proxy
(e.g. library-licensed E-Journals and databases).
Since many links on
Google Scholar results
pages may be to resources not specifically set up for recognition by
the Library Proxy, it will be easy to go down a path that quickly takes
you out of your Library Proxy session.
By selecting this preference,
your Google Scholar™ search
results page remains available and connected to your Library Proxy
session in
your original search results window.
If you have your Web browser set
to accept cookies, any Scholar Preferences you set should be available
for your next session. NOTE: Even if you have done this when connected from a UF computer, you will need to do it again when logged on via the Library Proxy.
The
UF Libraries has supplied Google with information about 1) our
electronic
subscriptions, 2) our linking
utility (SFX), and 3) computer IP address ranges for UF networks.
Since data in the UF SFX server is
constantly
changing (e.g. as we acquire a new E-Journal, etc.), Google
periodically sends
its spider robots to pick up the current SFX@UF information so that
data
showing in Google Scholar is kept reasonably up-to-date.
