1) Preparations for fall semester

Carol Turner passes around a mock-up of the user guide Barbara Hood created. It includes basic information on the library and user information. Barbara is also putting a publication together to be given to donors. Carol Drum suggested that some of the verbiage should be cut down, including information on the carrels since undergraduate students can’t get them. She suggested adding information on databases, full-text journals, etc.
Other suggestions were to use a different photo on the front of the guide and to include information on how to activate the Gator One card for use in the library and remote accessing.

The group also went over the list of other library handouts that have been updated. Cynthia Bowker will keep the masters and work with Facilities to get them printed. The handout on the database locator has been significantly modified.

The new FirstSearch will be turned on at the end of Summer B. The old version will be turned off August 20.

The second pilot of the project is getting ready to begin. It is being done by LC numbers. Each participating library is asked to submit a question every day. They can receive up to 10 questions a week. This is to help test how the software works. If there are any subject letters that can be defined to test the process, let Carol Turner know.

The Ref Xpress committee is looking at three services and will conduct demonstrations to determine which is best suited for the library’s purpose. Rich Bennett recommended that the MOO software not be used again. He suggested putting a ‘Coming Soon’ message on the web page that would forward users to the email reference until the chat was set up.
