Michele announced that the Serials Unit will be posting jobs for the unit Archivist and Senior Library Technical Assistant. Naomi announced that the reclassification of Dewey classified West current periodicals is underway. Jason is working on producing a report that will identify the Dewey titles remaining in the collection that require LC call numbers. From this discussion, the question about reclassifying the newspaper microfilms before returning them to Library West emerged. Cathy will investigate if the many microfilms containing more than one newspaper title have been split into separate microfilm reels. Cathy reported that Education and Journalism collections have completed running the item macro to fix holdings. Latin American collection is 70% complete and Music is almost complete. Work continues on the Marston Science and West collections.Metalib update
Rich reported that the MetaLib database continues to grow through the efforts of LeiLani Freund and Tom Minton. The MetaLib Pilot Implementation Group headed by Marilyn Ochoa will be starting focus groups and user surveys next week. The input gathered from this pilot should help with the planning for the soft launch of MetaLib during the summer. Once MetaLib is in place and functioning well, the Database Locator will disappear, probably in the fall.ERM update
Michele Newberry has negotiated Verde pricing proposal for the SUL. The pricing for the first tier schools (FIU, FSU, UCF, UF, and USF) and the consortium benefits plus the Aleph interaction features to come, make Verde the practical Electronic Resources Management (ERM) system to purchase for managing UF’s electronic resources. Implementation of the database may take place as soon as this summer. The committee will have to revisit the specifications for the Ex Libris’ Marcit serials record service sometime in the fall in anticipation of canceling the Serials Solution record service in favor of Marcit.
Analyzing electronic monograph series
The group discussed providing individual bibliographic records for titles appearing in monographic series that are now electronic resources. Currently bibliographic records are supplied for titles that are published in print form and electronic format; links are added to the print record. If the monograph series is only collected in its electronic format, then should the individual titles be analyzed and made available through bibliographic records containing the URL for the title. Rich will see if Serials Solution supplies records for analyzed titles in monographic series. Michele will check with EBSCO about the possibility of receiving bibliographic records from Springer for electronic versions.
The next meeting will be held on April 26th, 2006 at 2:00 PM in the Library East conference room
