Announcements
  1. The E-Measures Committee has been formed. If anyone from this group is receiving any stats let Shelley Arlen or Michele Crump know about it so they can try and capture this information.
  2. Macro-Express is a program that is currently being tested for functionality in ALEPH. With it we can create macros that will perform repetitive tasks, thus saving our minds and our fingers/wrists.
  3. The Serials Solutions User Group met at ALA MW04 and announced that they will be rolling out on February 1st 2004 the ability to customize the "years of" column in the journal title list.
Aleph Update
  • 05/03/04 is the date set for STP.
  • April 1st is the date set for a freeze of NOTIS OPAC activity
  • FCLA will be doing a full load in the reports region to get an idea of whether or not this time frame will give us enough time to meet STP goal.
  • Subset 5 begins next week and will be done by mid february. At that time it will be ready for review.
  • Production is now the modifiable region. Test will be going down and will be where subset 5 will be loaded into.
  • Aleph 101 classes will be taught in the last part of March 04, but they will not be mandatory.
  • April will be the main month for functional training of different modules
  • In Julia Allen's Aleph Training template you can see that she has created a homework section that is set up for students to do exercises away from the class.
  • During the April Aleph Training period we will be using Test (subset 5 material) to demonstrate examples during training.
  • Acquisitions will be using NOTIS acquistion functions until the end of the fiscal year, at which point the order records will be migrated to Aleph.
  • By the end of February we need to make the following decisions:
    1. What will we do about new items that come in during the freeze?
    2. We will probably not receive approval books. Instead YBP will provide GOBI for virtual approval selection and then send selected items when ALEPH is fully functional.
Electronic Resources Management Update
  • Some old provisionals were found during the first pass through Kluwer and Wiley electronic only packages. These are being sorted through.
  • Some problem titles have been found in both packages
    1. items turned out to actually be monographs
    2. Sometimes there actually isn't any content present.(This is because they are new titles and have not started producing material yet)
  • If anyone in the group notices anything peculiar about Kluwer or Wiley titles please let Doug Kiker or Naomi know about it.
  • It is still unclear about how new titles will be dealt with.
  • The ACM title list is a new paper cancellation project. UF will have access to everything electronically in the ACM Digital Library. So far we have put in the links for the journals, but we are waiting to do the proceedings.
  • If you are a selector and you know of a useful title in the Directory of Open Access Journals then please let Naomi know so that she can Rush it's cataloging. Otherwise these titles will be added at her convenience. Use K 856=doaj to search for the titles that have already been inputted.
  • We have access to the World Bank now- everything they have is listed as monographs, but Naomi has found that some of them are actually serials.
  • Lawrence Erlbaum Associates have removed their titles from Ingenta. Therefore we will no longer have electronic access to current materials for these titles unless the selector for the title wishes to pay the extra online fee. Here is a list of the journals they offer: www.leaonline.com/action/showJournals
First Search ECO Service
  • As of Jan. 31, 2004 we will no longer have access to ECO titles because we will not be renewing with SOLINET.
  • For the most part these titles can be accessed through INGENTA instead.
  • If the titles cannot be accessed through INGENTA, then links to the publisher will be established.
?'s to this group
  • Q: Does everyone agree that canceling our ECO titles is a good idea?
    1. The CM group does not meet regularly so it might be hard to get a consensus vote from that body, everyone in the CRPG can approach CM members to get an idea of where they stand.
  • Q: What is INGENTA's business plan?
    1. The group believes INGENTA receives money from the publishers who have outsourced the online hosting of their journals to them.
  • Q: How many titles are we talking about?
    1. 450
  • Q: Should we keep the First Search links around just in case we need them in the future?
    1. We will move ECO links to a 599.
EJS
Ebsco provides a service called EJS which provides us with free access to any of the titles we have purchased from them.
