  1. Announcements: Rich announced that plans are underway to purchase and install Serials Solution.  This software helps manage electronic resources and offers the patron a one stop shopping access approach to locating titles buried in aggregated packages.  Naomi announced that the electronic journals received free of charge from the publisher are now indexed as “free” and can be searched as K856 free.
  2. Marie Kennedy joined the group to demo the new look of the Serials Handbook.  She showed the group the revised Collection Management and the group reviewed the Electronic Resource Ordering Procedures in the process.  Suggestions were made to change the Check List for Ordering Electronic Resources or incorporate some elements of it into the new Electronic Resource Order Form.  There was some discussion about CD ROM’s on the tower and the defunct NRG committee.  Rich said that another electronic resource review group will assume some of the functions of the NRG and serve as a coordinating body to ensure that electronic resource orders, license agreements, cataloging, and Web follow a definite workflow.
  3. The Group discussed the Guidelines for Establishing an 856 Link to Free Electronic Journal Access one more time and reviewed the new serials order request form.  Doug presented the draft for the guidelines to the Steers Committee in September and received positive feedback about the documentation.  The Committee approved the procedure with a few minor corrections.  The guideline will be added to the online Serials Handbook.
  4. Doug introduced the topic of handling and processing CD ROM’s with examples of CD’s received as a volume/issue of a serial usually published in paper format.  The group discussed the use of the Security cases for items such as these and agreed that this seems to be a good option for making the material more readily accessible to the user.  Pam reported on the use of the cases in Marston -- some initial problems with set up – which seems to be working now.  Michele and Cathy will approach the new Chair of Access Services about the use of security cases in the main stacks.
