Meeting, July 25, 2001

Present: Robert Singerman; Rich Bennett; Doug Kiker; Robena Cornwell; Jean Bostwick; Naomi Young; Michele Crump

  1. Announcements and introductions:  Michele introduced Doug Kiker, the new Head of the Serials Acquisitions Unit.  Michele announced that SwetsBlackwell would be meeting with the Serials Acquisitions Unit staff to discuss service issues and claiming problems.  EBSCO will also be visiting to discuss their license agreement management service for free electronic journals. The next Serials Policy Committee meeting will be on September 26, 2-4, there will not be a meeting in August.
  2. IP Address changes:  Rich announced that we will have to make changes to our Proxy IP addresses because NERDC has changed communication services from BellSouth to Alachua Net.   Marie Kennedy and Doug Kiker have notified all the electronic journal and database vendor/providers of the change and asked them to implement as soon as possible.  Rich added an alert message to the Library homepage in case some electronic resources are not available because vendors have not made the update. We will more than likely have to notify vendors/ providers of further changes in late August or early September.
  3. The committee agreed that the draft for “Guidelines for Establishing an 856 Link to Free Electronic Journal Access” is ready to move forward.  Michele will present the draft to the Steers Committee and once approved add the procedure to the online Serials Handbook.
  4. Naomi and Rich will coordinate the electronic resources publisher packages lists so that the list on the Library Web page and the one in the Serials Handbook are consistent.  Naomi and Michele will identify which packages require record maintenance on individual titles in order to index package name and/or “free” with subscription.
  5. Future agenda items:  Update on the CD ROM case project in Marston Science; discuss expanding the CD ROM case project to other locations.  Reports on vendor visits.  Project for indexing in NOTIS the “free” electronic journals.  Notify Michele if you have other agenda items to offer.
