Meeting, November 28, 2001

Present: Robert Singerman; Rich Bennett; Doug Kiker; Robena Cornwell; Jean Bostwick; Naomi Young; Michele Crump; Cathy Mook; Jan Swanbeck; Pam Cenzer

  1. Announcements: Rich announced that Serials Solution, the software that manages electronic resources and offers one stop access approach, is still in the works.  The interface should be up and running after the first of the year.  Michele announced that the SwetsBlackwell invoice tape load is in process. Annual renewal invoices for Harrassowitz and EBSCO have been processed.
  2. Analyzing electronic resources – do we continue to analyze a large series once it becomes a Web-only resource.  Naomi introduced this topic with the example “Kraus Curriculum Library”.  After some discussion she suggested that serials catalogers link the electronic anal to the paper copy for the time being.  In the future, particularly when the Serials Cataloging Unit is fully staff, we will revisit this topic and discuss creating individual records for the electronic version of the analytic and setting policy on how to handle the Web-only analyzed series.
  3. Revisit Web resource password distribution – is the current distribution procedure working? Rich opened the discussion by recalling an August PSC meeting in which this topic was discussed.  At that meeting no other workable solution developed.  Until publishers cease producing titles with password access we will continue to store password information in the tech side of LUIS.  Rich has documented the procedures for public service staff on WebLUIS at: http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/webluis/password.html

Naomi will identify how many titles still require a password for access and work on another viable solution.  Meanwhile members of this group will make an effort to increase public service staff awareness of the procedures.

  1. CD-ROM Security Cases – Michele and Cathy will meet with Lori Driscol to discuss the possibility of adopting Security cases for CD-ROM’s; DVD’s; Videos in the stacks.  The meeting is set for December 10.
