- Push record to Cataloging module and open HOL record
- Expand pattern from template
- Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+E to open the template window
- Choose pattern by frequency
- Alter data in fields to represent the actual information from the journal
- typically enumeration and chronolgy fields
- example: expected will be v.65:no.1(2005:Jan.) template reads v.1:no.1(2000:Jan.)
- OR create pattern manually
- Create an 853 field
- Based upon knowledge of piece fill in values:
- 1st [$$a] and 2nd [$$b] levels of enumeration (typically v. and no.)
- Bibliogrpahic units per next higher level [$$u] (if a quarterly then typically 4)
- Numbering continuity [$$v] (c=
Number increments continuously
, r=numbering restarts every year i.e. 12345 or 1234, 1)
- 1st [$$i] and 2nd [$$j] levels of chronology (typically (year) and (month))
- Choose the frequency [$$w] from a wide range of values
- Add a field linking [$$8] # (typically 1)
- Create an 853 X field
- Based upon expected piece, fill in the values that correspond to the 853 subfields
- 1st [$$a] and 2nd [$$b] levels of enumeration
- 1st [$$i] and 2nd [$$j] levels of chronology
- The expected date for an item is determined by the start date [$$3] in the pattern and the value present in the Claim date of the Subscription Info (Tab 3)

If you expect the first issue to come in sometime in mid-January of 2008 then use the value 20080115 [$$3]
- Subscription linking [$$9] #: links the pattern to the subscription in the Serials module
- Add a field linking # (typically 1) [$$8]
- Save record to server
- Push record to Acquisitions/Serials Module
- Click on Serials tab
- Click on node [N] Patterns
- Click on Level X tab of the upper pane
- Click on Expected Schedule tab of the lower pane
- Clikc on Open Items button
- Verify accuracy on node [K] Check In
