Cash & Securities

Cash or securities are among the most popular types of gifts for the University of Florida.

Annual gifts from loyal library patrons and friends make it possible for the UF libraries to meet the needs of our faculty and students. Varying levels of uncertain government funding and budget cutbacks have changed the status of our previously state-supported university into that of an institution that is increasingly dependent on private sources of funding. As a state-assisted university, UF has even less certainty that the state funding we have received in the past will continue.

Donors may support the libraries at many levels and make donations in any amount. Donors also may designate various subject areas of the libraries' collections to receive such support. Through the annual gifts program, supporters can also elect to purchase a book through the bookplate program. These gifts make it possible for the libraries to purchase many types of research materials including books, journals, microfilm, as well as equipment for patrons, such as public computers and electronic resources.

Equally important, unrestricted annual contributions provide the libraries with the income needed to make time-sensitive, one-of-a-kind purchases as well as provide stability in uncertain budget times. Our annual donors are featured in an honor roll each year in the libraries' newsletter, Chapter One, published twice a year and distributed to the friends of the libraries and more than one hundred research institutions. An annual donor event is held each year in conjunction with the Howe Society dinner to recognize the libraries' generous supporters.

Library donors are recognized at the following levels of giving:

         ANNUAL GIFTS

Friends $5 to $99
Fellows $100 to $499
Sponsors $500 to $999
Patrons $1,000 to $1,999
Benefactors $2,000 to $4,999
Director's Circle $5,000 to $9,999

LEGACY GIFTS (Cumulative giving)

Bronze $20,000 to $49,999
Silver $50,000 to $99,999
Gold $100,000 and more

Donors of $2,000 or more a year, restricted or unrestricted, are recognized through the University of Florida President's Council.
