The Penn State University Division of Development and Alumni Relations, an exceptional group of committed fundraising professionals truly working together to make a difference, seeks a new colleague to join their team as a Director of Development for the Penn State Libraries.

Looking for a New Opportunity Where You Can:
  • Develop annual goal-setting and fundraising plans?

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni and donors in support of those plans and goals?

  • Work collaboratively with the Dean, development committee, and University Development to ensure fundraising success?

  • Engage Department Heads and faculty in the fundraising enterprise?

  • Personally manage a portfolio of major gift prospects?


As the chief fundraiser for the Libraries, this high-profile position within the University requires a candidate with extraordinary experience and vision. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of University Development, the Director will develop a close working relationship with the Dean of the Penn State Libraries. Responsible for the oversight and management of all fundraising efforts, this individual directs and manages two frontline fundraisers and support staff for the Libraries Development Office. Penn State is in the midst of an ambitious, university-wide, seven-year fundraising campaign.


The successful candidate must have a proven track record of success, an ability to work collaboratively, and the capability to provide the Libraries with professional guidance and strong leadership to conceive and execute successful strategies for securing private philanthropy. A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. Five years of successful major gift fundraising experience, preferably within higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are also required. The successful candidate must have exemplary interpersonal skills; demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences; and possess strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Extensive travel is required.
