Bibliographic, Holdings and Items

 

Bibliographic Data: 

1. Open ALEPH to the Cataloging Gui-Client.  Use the "find" (binoculars) to search for the "previous system no." ABP5598.  Is the resulting record a "Book" or a "Serial"?_________________ 

2. Using the record above place your cursor on the LDR field.  Use the "Edit" drop down menu to "Open form".  A form should open with the details of the LDR field displayed in a labeled view.  What are the values for the following fields?  Record Status ___ Encoding level ______ Type of Record ______ Bibliographic level ______

3. After closing the form for the previous question place cursor on the 008 field of the record and use the "Edit" menu to "Open form".  Using the resulting labeled view of the 008 field, what are the values for the following fields?  Date 1 ____ Place of publication code _______ Language code ________ Frequency _______ [Close form and record before proceeding]

4. Open the Search module by clicking the "binoculars" icon on the "Applications toolbar" at the top of the screen.  Do browse search for for title " Israeli planners and designers" and select the matching record from the resulting list or results.  Click the "Full" button.  Add to navigation map and then "push" the record into the cataloging module to view bib record.  What is the "Place of publication" code in the 008 field? ______

5. What is the place named in the $$a field of the 260 field? ______________ [Close record before proceeding]

6. Using the "find" search do an author search for "Stephen Robitaille".  In the resulting record use the "Edit" menu and "Open form" to answer the following question.  What are the labels that correspond to the following data values which should be unique for the 007 field?  v __________________________________  b ________________________________  o _____________________________  s __________________________________  [Close out record before proceeding]

7. The title level note of the Copy Holdings screen is mapped to the bibliographic record in our NOTIS to ALEPH conversion.   Do you remember what field in the bibliographic record? ______

8. In the Cataloging module use the "find" search to do a "previous system number" search for "AJU2828".   Write out the title level note from the ALEPH bibliographic record. ________________________________________________  [Close record before proceeding]

From the Cataloging module use "find" to search the word "plant" in title fields of the bibliographic record.  Use the "Full" button to look at the bibliographic information for at least 5 different records from the results list.  Hint! Do not use the "Select" button to display the record because you will loose your search results.

10. When viewing the "Full" view from the find search results is the data only from the bibliographic record?  Hint! Is the "Location" information from the bib record? _______

11.  Choose a record from your search results list above.  View it using "Full" and examine it closely.  Now use the "Select" button to select the record and bring it completely up in the Cataloging module.  Is the record more complete, less complete, or the same as in the "Full" view from the results list? ___________

Holdings Data:

1. In the Cataloging module use "browse" (shelflist icon) to do a title search for "Mimeo report Dover Arec" select and completely display the record: "Full" and then "Select".  Use the "File" menu to "Load HOL record from server".  The "Holdings List" window should appear.  Click the holdings which is displayed in the bottom half of the window and click "Edit" to view the holdings record.  What is the location for this holding? 2. Using the Search module (Gui-OPAC) "find" binoculars, call up the record whose "author" is "La Monneraye, Jean de".  Hint! Do an author search.  Next make sure you have added the record to the "Nav. Map".  Push the record into the cataloging module to view the holdings record. Hint! Use the "Catalog HOL" button.  You should now see the "Holdings List".  How many holdings are there for this title? _____

3. Click the 1^st holdings and then the "Edit" button.  From the holdings record that displays, what is the call number? _________________ Is there a collection code, what is it? _______ [Close holdings record to view "Holdings List"]

4. Continuing to use the "Holdings List" from above completely display the second holdings by selecting it by a click of the mouse and clicking the "Edit" button on the "Holdings List" window.  The 1^st indicator of the 852 field tells what the classification scheme (call number type) is.  What is the value of the 1^st indicator of the 852 field? ______

5. Using the chart that follows, what is the classification scheme of the above holdings? _____________________________________
