The following projects are related to the Mission and Goals Statement of the Dance Librarians Discussion Group (DLDG).
Goals and objectives are followed by descriptive action to be taken.

GOAL I
Subgoal A, Objective 1: Inform all academic dance programs and professional dance companies of the existence of the Dance Librarians Discussion Group (DLDG) and encourage their students, faculty and staff to consult with DLDG members, [1993]

GOAL I
Subgoal A, Objective 2: Encourage ACRL Arts Section Liaison Committee to provide the DLDG with dance-related information about the activities of such organizations as the Theatre Library Association, Art Libraries Society of North America, Music Library Association, American Film and Video Association, Society of American Archivists, Special Libraries Association, Congress On Research in Dance, Society of Dance History Scholars, Dance Critics Association, National Dance Association, the Dance Heritage Coalition, the World Dance Alliance and the Commission on Preservation and Access. Encourage DLDG members to communicate activities of DLDG to these bodies and vice versa. Communicate the needs of Dance Librarians to the Dance Heritage Coalition and participate in advisory committees and projects of the DHC. [l993]

GOAL I
Subgoal A, Objective 3: Send summaries of minutes from all DLDG meetings to the Arts Newsletter and the publications and the publications of related dance and library organizations. [1993] Review the dance portion of the membership brochure that is being prepared for the Arts Section by its Education and Recruitment Committee, Create brochures or bookmarks that briefly outline dance library issues and indicate that answers may be found through the DLDG. Subgoal A, Objective 4: Identify dance library organizations in other countries and open a dialogue with them. Discuss an international meeting of librarians and archivists in dance to be held within the next 5 years. [l993]

Subgoal B, Objective 2: Establish working relationships with organizations interested in censorship and intellectual freedom issues as they relate to dance and dance funding. Encourage ACRL Arts, Government and Private Sector Activities Committee to keep the DLDG informed with timely information about censorship and intellectual freedom issues; as they relate to dance and dance funding.

Subgoal C, Objective 1: Encourage ACRL Arts Section to work with ACRL in its efforts to define and recruit qualified dance librarians.

Subgoal D, 0bjective 1: Write a statement expressing the need for more educational opportunities in dance librarianship to be forwarded to the ACRL Arts Education and Recruitment Committee, which will send on to the ALISE (Association for Library and lnformation Science Education) of ALA.



GOAL II
Subgoal A, 0bjective 1: Draft a proposal to ACRL Arts Planning Committee asking that a Standards Committee be created to study the question of standards in dance libraries. [1993] Prepare documentation for needed standards. Create a standard video label format for works produced to document dance. Distribute labels to the dance community nationally.

Subgoal B, Objective 1: Prepare an annotated list of organizations and basic materials to assist with preliminary questions concerning preservation of dance materials to be distributed to dance collections and the wider dance community. Offer a workshop/program featuring experts in the field of preservation of dance materials.

Subgoal B, Objective 2: Compile sample collection development policies in dance from repositories holding dance materials. [l994] Encourage library publications such as Choice to review more dance materials and to use members of the DLDG as reviewers.

Subgoal B, Objective 3: Prepare a basic list of publishers and vendors active in distributing dance materials in all formats.

Subgoal B Objective 4: Identify organizations involved in documenting dance and prepare a list of them [1993] Contact groups such as ACRL/ANSS (Anthropology and Sociology Section), as well as the ALA Office of Library Outreach to find out what kind of multicultural dance documentation is being done. Also contact Society of Ethnomusicology and American Musicological Society, CORD, SDHS, ADG, NDA and other dance research groups. [1993]

GOAL II
Subgoal B, Objective 5: Report on the activities of coalitions and/or other organizations that are beginning to create shared international databases for dance. Monitor and evaluate the usefulness of the products of coalitions establishing international dance databases and provide necessary feedback to those organizations.

Subgoal B, Objective 6: Continue to hold meetings of the DLDG during ALA Midwinter and Annual Conference meetings. Identify and report on other networking activities. Establish an electronic reference network connecting dance librarians so that they may assist one another with reference questions. [completed June l992 through the DLDG-L]

GOAL II Subgoal B Objective 7: Maintain contact with vendors of dance and dance-related materials who exhibit at ALA. Prior to meetings, make a list of relevant vendors and distribute to the area dance community where the meetings will be held in order to encourage further investigation. List all vendors specializing in technology appropriate to dance and distribute it to the dance community. Obtain exhibit passes for interested dance community members.

GOAL II Subgoal B Objective 8: Encourage the ACRL Arts Section's Technology in the Arts Committee to continue to provide discussions and programs that include dance-related topics. Work with LITA and other parts of ALA interested in technology appropriate to dance on cooperative programs and projects.

Subgoal B, Objective 9: Identify programs, workshops and publications that are produced by ALA and other professional organizations that address issues of management and facilities appropriate to dance. [l994]

Subgoal 8, Objective 10: Establish a liaison with interlibrary loan committees in ALA such as the Reference and Adult Services Interlibrary Loan Committee. [1994] Contact the Video Roundtable of ALA and express the need for the support of interlibrary loan of video materials for dance libraries. [1994] 


GOAL III
Subgoal B: Encourage the ACRL Arts Section to support the DLDG in promoting study, research and publication relevant to dance librarianship.

Subgoal B, Objective 4: Update and distribute a DLDG membership list to all members once a year. [established 199l] 


GOAL IV
Subgoal A, Objective 1: Hold one discussion per year using the program format. [1994] Present a discussion using a program format that focuses on the challenges that librarians face when the arts are not their primary responsibility. [l995-1998] Present discussions using the program format addressing such topics as technology, management, preservation, ethics, intellectual freedom, collection development, instruction, organization and access. Show how they relate to dance librarianship [1995-l998] Organize "field trips" to dance collections which are located in cities where DLDG meetings are going to be held. [ established 1992] Encourage the Arts Section Conference Program Planning Committee to include dance in their planning. [l992]
