Hard Copy Reserves

Hard Copy Reserves, such as books, videos, DVDs, etc., are offered in all our campus libraries. These materials may be placed on Reserve at any main campus library.

To request items be placed on Hard Copy Reserve please follow the instructions below. Additional information is also found on the "How To Get Started" page of this instructor guide.

How to submit a request to place an item on Reserve:

Please submit your Reserves request at least 4 weeks PRIOR to the beginning of the semester. This allows time for processing of the material especially if the item needs to be purchased, recalled or submitted via ILL.

Go to the Course Reserves Online Request Form and enter in your Gator1 ID and password.

There are 4 easy steps:

  1. Click on the Reserves online submission form (OCRA) where you log in using your GatorID and password
  2. Select the appropriate form. If you have a book, click on “Book” and fill out the citation information. Do the same if you have a “journal” or “multimedia” item. If you have a personal item, a call number will be automatically generated. Quick Tip: copy & paste the citation from your syllabus as it will save you time. A full citation is required.
  3. Be sure to fill out the Copyright form, if necessary. You can fax it to the Reserves Office at 392-6540, drop off at the circulation desk or upload as an attachment on the online form.
  4. Once the form is completed, hit the “submit” button. You will be given a confirmation number. Please print for your records and/or save the e-mail for future reference. You will need this confirmation number on any personal items that you bring in to the library circulation desk for Reserves processing.

(Note: Instructors in the Health Science Center and College of Law should contact the Health Science Center Library at 392-4011 or Legal Information Center at 392-0417.)

If the Smathers Libraries do not own the item you need, there are two options:

  1. We can place your own personal copy of the item on reserve. Please understand that by placing your own copy on reserve you are assuming the risk of having your material damaged or possibly stolen. We monitor personal reserve items as closely as we do our library materials, however we cannot repair, replace or guarantee the condition of your materials.
  2. We can request a purchase of that item by submitting a purchase request to the appropriate subject specialist. This process takes time, and success may be contingent upon budget constraints.

Where to find the Hard Copy items on Reserve:

To find a Hard Copy item on Reserve, have students go to the library catalog and click on "Course Reserves" type in the course and/or instructor name, then provide that information to the library circulation desk staff so that they may retrieve the material.
