Linking to Electronic Content

Providing electronic content for the ERes staff will save valuable time before copyright review. If we already own the content in electronic format, we can link directly without going through the copyright permissions process and without paying copyright fees. Whenever possible, we encourage instructors to identify content that has been found through UF licensed resources.

Books

Search book chapters by the book title and chapter author. Do not begin your search with an article, i.e., a, an, the. Search in Netlibrary, specialty databases, Google, and UF Catalog. If a link exists, cut and paste URL into the record, put page numbers in note field.

Journal articles

Search for a journal article by searching the title of the journal in the E-Journal Locator. Do not begin your search with an article, i.e., a, an, the. Within the journal site, you may either browse by issue or use a search feature for the issue containing the article. Follow the instructions below to obtain a persistent URL for that document and cut and paste it into the record.

Persistent URLs

Cut and paste directly from the address line of these journals

1. ACS - American Chemical Society
2. AMS - American Mathematical Society
3. Annual Reviews
4. BioOne
5. Blackwell Science
6. Oxford Press
7. Project Muse
8. RSC - Royal Society of Chemistry
9. SIAM - Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics
10. Synergy
11. Wiley InterScience

Creating Persistent URLs from Unstable URLs

American Institute of Physics - Includes ASCE, ASME, APS
The journal home page link is persistent, but the table of contents will change with each publication, so do not use the TOC option (see Other File Options below).

Cambridge Journals
Must type URL without cutting and pasting. Can link to TOC level of specific issue. Note underscore between word "issue" and the title. The journal title is not case sensitive. If making a link to Tables of Contents, the issues number MUST contain two digits:
e.g. "VOL61No02" not "Vol61No2".
When linking to a journal, which contains a comma in its title, omit that from the linking formula. The title listing can be found at the Cambridge home page.

EBSCOhost
In any EBSCOhost database, use the "citation" view. Cut and paste the URL.

FirstSearch
Use the "Link Pickup" option. Look for the "IP-address recognition URL." Cut and paste the URL listed.

IEEE/IEE Electronic Library (IEL) (IEEE Xplore)
For issue level, use the following algorithm:
http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/servlet/opac?punumber=X&isvol=Y&isno=Z

Change the following unique information:
X=IEEE-designated publication number (found on web site)
Y=volume number
Z=issue number

Institute of Physics Journals
Link to the article starting at the first page. Letter characters used in page numbers are case sensitive and require the prefix character in the example of a letter (L) note (N) or review (R) -
Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 30 No7 (7 April 1997) L167-L172
http://stacks.iop.org/JPhysA/30/L167

JSTOR
Do not use the URL in the address box. JSTOR offers an option at the top of the page called Citation/Stable URL." Cut and paste the URL given to you in the article of this view.

LexisNexis
Use Link Builder. Type the citation in the dialog box. Choose a service. Click the Build Link button. You will see a link and the HTML and URL for the link on the right side of the screen. Click on the link to test the search in this frame. Copy and paste the URL.

ProQuest
Search for article. Select "full text" option (not PDF). "Article URL" is the last field in the record. Cut and paste the entire URL.

Science Direct
Link to a record using the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). The DOI is at the top left hand corner on every article in ScienceDirect. You must add the prefix "http://dx.doi.org/" to the DOI. Example:
http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/S0014-5793(02)03627-X

Springer LINK
Go to article level. Select "Linking Options" from right side of screen. Select "To Link with the print ISSN" URL.
