Division of Scholarly Resources and Research Services
Cataloging and Metadata Department

The Cataloging and Metadata Department supports the University's academic programs and research by providing metadata description for physical and digital collections.  In addition, the department manages the physical processing of analog material held by the library.  Five librarians and thirteen support staff catalog approximately 25,000 titles per year in compliance with national standards of bibliographic control and in keeping with established Cataloging Priorities. Original record contributions to OCLC, an international bibliographic database, number 5,000 annually. The department participates in international cooperative cataloging programs including CONSER, BIBCO, NACO, SACO, and AGRICOLA. Four cataloging units - Area Studies, Branch, Serials, and Special Collections - collaborate to create efficient workflows and apply the latest technologies in order to meet user needs.
