Contributed Cataloging Unit

Mission Statement

The Contributed Cataloging Unit is responsible for materials needing original or difficult shared cataloging in all subject areas and formats. In addition to provision of access to UF patrons for these materials in the library catalogs, the unit contributes new and upgraded bibliographic and authority records to the OCLC (WorldCat) database. Many of our members have special cataloging and liaison assignments with special formats and areas of the libraries as listed below.

Contributed Cataloging Unit Staff

Greg Allen (Library Associate 1, Departmental Web Coordinator.)
Contributes original and shared cataloging for books, maps, videos and other formats. Works independently with certain online videos and water management district technical reports. Special areas of expertise: nutrition and food science/microbiology (M.S., University of Florida, 2010). Works on the MSL Reference Desk several times a week. Serves on the President's LGBT Concerns Committee.

Peter Bushnell  (Associate Librarian)
Latin American original and shared cataloging. Music original and shared cataloging. General humanities original and shared cataloging. Liaison to Departmental Branches, including Education, Music, Journalism, and Architecture and Fine Arts Libraries.

Jane Anne Carey (Assistant Librarian and Unit Head)
Coordinates special data clean-up and cataloging projects. Assists with the management of database maintenance operations, including planning, budget and goal setting for reclassification and other projects. Maintains data in the local catalog and WorldCat to accurately reflect bibliographic data, including current library holdings. Original cataloging and revision of original cataloging for humanities. Liaison to Special and Area Studies Collections Department.

Susan Constantineau (Library Associate 1)
Creates original cataloging records for maps and other library materials for local and national databases. Creates and edits records in various languages and formats. Special areas of expertise: maps (including antique maps), newspapers, and other serials. Also coordinates original cataloging of Florida History materials.

Patricia Dana (Archivist; original and shared cataloger)
Feature films and non-book format cataloging (CD ROMS, laser discs, etc.) General humanities and Special Collections original and shared cataloging. Serials cataloging, including newspapers.

Susan Duser (Library Associate 1)
Creates original cataloging records for maps and other library materials for local and national databases. Creates and edits records in various languages and formats. Special areas of expertise: maps and graphic arts.

Jorge González  (Library Associate 2)
Creates original cataloging records for cartographic and science materials independently for local and national databases, and performs copy cataloging. Special areas of expertise: geography (M.A., University of Florida, 2008), and Spanish language materials. Assists IFAS Extension Centers as needed in training for and sometimes cataloging of their collections. Assists in providing reference, training and circulation assistance at the Map Library. Helps the Latin American Collection via Development Office work. Also works as an Ask A Librarian.

Gerald Langford (Senior Archivist)
Creates original cataloging records and edits shared records for Special Collections with an emphasis on Florida History. Creates and edits records in various languages and formats. Serves as a consultant for IT and other staff who batchload catalog records, and for authority control issues. Serves as co-chair of the SUL Authorities Subcommittee.

Beatriz Lugo (Library Associate 1)
General humanities and Special Collections original and shared cataloging
Special Collections cataloging--Belknap Popular Culture Collection Spanish language and literature original and shared cataloging Rare book shared cataloging. Serials cataloging (.2 FTE). Serves on Cataloging and Metadata Dept. Training Committee. Special projects.

Hikaru Nakano (Assistant Librarian and Assistant Unit Head)
Chinese/Japanese/Korean language and literature original cataloging. General humanities cataloging. Contributes NACO work for Japanese and Chinese names. Chairs the department Training Committee. Special projects include retrospective provision of vernacular terms to Oriental and Slavic languages materials in the catalog.

Dave Van Kleeck (Library Associate 2)
Creates original and shared cataloging records for Special Collections with an emphasis on Rare Books. Acts as liaison to Special and Area Studies Collections
