NACO Annual Report

In fy12 NACO catalogers contributed 1,022 name and series authority records to the National Authority File, an overall decrease from (fy11) 1,223 of 201, or 16 %.  Personal name contributions decreased from (fy11) 661 to (fy12) 494, a decrease by 167, or 25%.   Fy12 personal name contributions represent 48% of the total (fy12) NACO contributions.  The number of corporate body authority records contributed decreased from (fy11) 321 to (fy12) 200, a decrease by 121 or 38%. Series contributions increased this year from (fy11) 183 to (fy12) 253, an increase of 70, or 38%. The increase can be attributed to an increase in the number of series authority records created and revised in support of the STODOCS cataloging project and the continued NACO support from the descriptive series contributions from the Copy Cataloging unit and Baldwin cataloging project.    

FY 2013 is going to be an interesting year for catalogers as we prepare to implement and start using RDA and RDA and NACO.  NACO catalogers will be taking the PCC RDA and NACO training online course (February-March 2013).  The training is required for all AACR2 catalogers planning to implement RDA.
