1911

NACO contributions decreased from (fy 06) 1,993 to (fy07) 1,911 a reduction by 82 or 4.1%, however, I’ve learned over the last five years how important it is to view increases and decreases as reflections of changes in cataloging priorities, not to be used totally as statistical predictions for the next year’s performance.  We experienced a decrease in all categories of NACO except personal names.   We contributed 305 corporate bodies, 84 less than last year resulting in a decrease from (fy06) 389 to (fy07) 305 or 21.6%, and a reduction in the number of series authorities from (fy06) 361 to (fy07) 279, a decrease of 82 or 22.7%. Personal names increased by 104 from (fy06) 1,076 to (fy07) 1,180 or 9.7%.  The increase in personal name authority record submissions were expected and can be attributed, in part, to the addition of Chinese, Japanese and Korean personal names contributed to NACO by the CJK language cataloger.  After undergoing review with the Library Of Congress for CJK submissions UF is now independent to submit Chinese personal name CJK authority records to NACO without review but continues to be reviewed by LC for Japanese and Korean language personal names and all other categories of CJK authority records.  Again this year we benefitted from the cataloging support from the Science and Social Sciences Cataloging Unit’s work to provide cataloging and authority work for the IFAS Center Research reports and the participation in the 2nd phase of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Baldwin grant.
