Goals & Objectives 2004-2005
Major Goals & Objectives
- Fill new faculty position in the unit and
collaborate with the Digital Library Center to address authority issues
related to digitization
- Consult with the Florida Center for Library
Automation (FCLA) on current authority control issues to support our needs
in ALEPH for reporting and global change capabilities
- Continue the deletion of series in the UFU10
ALEPH local authority file that match the LC treatment; monitor the linkage
to the LCProd file (Nancy)
- Continue to support Dewey reclassification
projects
- Train catalogers, including copy catalogers,
in authorities checking in ALEPH and serve as resource in conjunction
with the newly formed Cataloging & Metadata Dept. Training Committee
(Priscilla & Gerald)
- Assess Copy Cataloging workflow and make recommendations for appropriate authorities verification and checking in ALEPH and Connexion (Priscilla & Gerald)
Other Specific Goals & Objectives
- Continue to help FCLA monitor the upcoming
loads of the weekly LC updates (Nancy)
- Investigate outsourcing authority control
to an outside vendor (Priscilla)
- Begin using reports in ALEPH related to
authority control and database maintenance
- Implement personal names headings pilot
project to correct headings that match cross references in authority records
by going systematically through the ALEPH browse index (Jackie Heiland)
- Revise the "Authorities Checking in
ALEPH Guidelines" in ALEPHPRO (Gerald)
- Revise "Record Editing Guidelines"
for ALEPHPRO (Priscilla)
- Create guidelines for reviewing NACO authority
records for ALEPHPRO (Priscilla)
- Create guidelines for recording local series
treatment decisions ONLY on the series authority record (Priscilla)
- Re-evaluate the Series/serials Problem Solving
Group to determine if the group will continue its work in the current
format
- Resume responsibility for loading analytics

- Coordinate the outsourcing of foreign language
materials for cataloging (Priscilla)
- Continue to load MARC records for e-books
that have been purchased in bulk from vendors (Gerald)
