RS ALEPH Cataloging Trainers
Group April 21, 2003
April 21, 2003
On Friday, April 18 Rich announced that the STP would be delayed until May 3, 2004 - one year after the original STP of May 12, 2003. In spite of this dramatic change, we continued with our plan to meet with Daniel and Mary Ann in the MSL training room to walk through the questions the group had sent them previously.
Group members reported that it is problematic to plan a cataloging training curriculum without full system functionality. Daniel and Mary Ann explained some of the difficulties FCLA has had thus far in setting up Aleph, which are related to system functionality and prompted the STP delay. They said FCLA and UF are working on a document to outline the tasks to be accomplished and a timeframe for completion. Daniel and Mary Ann indicated that FCLA is planning to work closely with UF to configure the Cataloging GUI Client and the other modules and to test functionality. FCLA has not had an opportunity to do preliminary set-up and testing for many functions.
We discussed many of the questions. Jorge recommended and agreed to compile a spreadsheet to list our questions and FCLA's responses. After the meeting, Daniel provided written answers to many of the questions.
We decided to schedule our next meeting far enough in the future that the full test dataload review would likely be completed. Naomi suggested that we time it to occur shortly before ALA's Annual Conference, which we expect will take place after the full load review.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, 10:00-11:00, Library East Conference Room.
