Update on training sessions
CAT101 and CAT 102 sessions were completed April 21. Participant feedback was positive.
Lawan pointed out the need for the training sessions to focus on the big picture and not get too bogged down in the details. Tatiana, Naomi, and others responded that the trainers have worked hard to provide a contextual framework but are obligated to give concrete instruction on how to perform tasks.
Cathy pointed out that at least three Binding staff have not attended cataloging classes per her instructions and requested that post-STP CAT 101, 102 and HOL 101 sessions be offered. The trainers agreed. [Additional sessions are scheduled as follows: CAT 101 May 11; HOL 101 May 12; CAT 102 May 13.]
The following new training opportunities to be offered post-STP include:
- Authorities - Gerald and Tatiana are planning a more indepth look at authorities.
- Holdings - Naomi will be spearheading the creation of a "Big Book of Holdings" that will provide a comprehensive look at MARC21 Holdings and local handling procedures
- Items - possible roundtable to review Tatiana and Gerald's detailed items documentation
Day 1/Week 1 plans
The group decided to meet two times per week during the first two post-STP weeks to discuss and resolve issues and problems. Jackie emphasized the importance of sharing information with staff. As a result, the idea emerged to create a Web FAQ for the purpose of notifying staff about Aleph troubleshooting and techniques. Julia offered to create the FAQ and develop a means for staff to submit queries, concerns, and suggestions, which will form the basis of the FAQ. [A SysRequest for a Web submission form was submitted 4/29/04.]
The group discussed the trainer liaison role and agreed that the liaison should be available as a resource person to whom questions can be directed and with whom workflow ideas can be brainstormed if the unit desires. Betsy offered to send the current list of liaisons and units.
