Unit goals and annual reports
Unit heads should finalize and post FY08 unit goals and FY07 unit annual highlights by August 13th. The department annual report is due on September 1st.
A hiring freeze has been issued at UF. Some exceptions are expected. An update will be sent at a later date by Human Resources.
OPS and grant funds
OPS funds have not been allocated to departments yet, but Michele said to proceed as if the budget is the same as last year.
Betsy reported that the Digital Library Center is providing the department with grant funds to cover hiring Rachel Schneiderman to work on dLOC metadata revision. In addition, some of the same grant funds will be used to offset the department's OPS budget in exchange for CatMet staff contributing to dLOC metadata revision.
The functions of the Database Maintenance Unit will migrate to the Authorities and Metadata Quality Unit, including the librarian and Library Associate I lines, when Lawan retires at the end of the summer. The draft vacancy announcement for a database maintenance librarian was reviewed by the group, although it is unclear when the position will be able to be filled. Michele plans to discuss the vacancy with Judy in late July.
Dee Hawes has been sending Betsy monograph microfilm reels that she cannot find in Aleph. Doug said these could be passed along to the Copy Cataloging Unit.
There will be a Cataloging and Metadata Department meeting held on July 17th. One of the agenda topics is mini-grants - Kelly Cunningham contacted Betsy to ask if a Grants Committee member could speak to the department about this year's mini grant program. In addition, the CatMet staff who attended ALA Annual will share information gathered at the conference.
Convocation greatest hits
The group reviewed the compilation of Convocation greatest hits. The submission deadline is July 9th.
