Bib tag value clean-up
Jane Anne and Gerald reviewed the status of the single bib bib tag value clean-up project. Based on CMG input, they will complete the identification of tags that can be fixed via global change by the Authorities and Metadata Quality Unit, then send Jimmie and Doug a list of the remaining tags that need manual review for distribution. Jane Anne and Gerald will develop instructions as well.
RDA Toolkit open access period
During the RDA Toolkit open access period, which concludes August 31, 2010, CMG will conduct a review of the product. By the next CMG meeting on 7/21/10, CMG members should do the following: create a profile, view the RDA Toolkit Webinar, and become familiar with the resources available at a variety of sites (with some overlap), such as FCLA's Cataloging Resources page , PCC's RDA site, University of Chicago's RDA testing page, etc.
See RDA 101 pre-conference presentations as available: Dr. Vinod Chachra's ppt (click on the link entitled Insights and Processes from VTLS's 8 Years Experience with FRBR and RDA; also RDA Theory and Practice, Parts 1 and 2). [According to information shared at the 7/8/10 TSPC call, Dr. Ellett's presentation is going to be offered as an ALCTS Webinar.]
Betsy will keep Health and Law informed about CMG meetings re. RDA.
Jimmie asked that a print copy of RDA be purchased for the department reference collection. CMG agreed that this will be a good idea to do after the testing period is completed and a decision is made to implement RDA. The testing schedule shared with TSPC is as follows:
U.S. National Libraries RDA Testing and Implementation Schedule
- 2010, July-Sept: Preparation and training for creating RDA records, such as LC's Training-the-trainer webcasts
- 2010, Oct-Dec: RDA records are created and shared with the US RDA Test Coordinating Committee
- 2011, Jan-Mar: The US RDA Test Coordinating Committee analyses the results and reports to the Library of Congress, National Agricultural Library, and National Library of Medicine
- 2011, June: Decision to implement, or not, will be announced at the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans
7/20/10 department meeting
To date, the agenda for the 7/20/10 department meeting includes a demo of Office Communicator. CMG members should consider if any topics from ALA Annual need to be shared. Betsy will ask Rachel if she can update the department regarding relocation plans, building renovations, and the Panama Canal project. Other agenda ideas are welcome.
Unit and cooperative program annual reports are due to Betsy by Friday, August 13.
Naomi encouraged submissions for the Employee Excellence Awards.
