CatMet Management Group Minutes
August 15, 2012
Attendees: Peter Bushnell, Jane Anne Carey, Jimmie Lundgren, Hikaru Nakano, Betsy Simpson, Doug Smith, Priscilla Williams, Naomi Young
Journalism Library transfers to Library West are in the process of being moved. Gerald will do a global change to convert the sublibrary/collection codes when the move is completed. ALF staff will handle the location change for Journalism material transferred to storage. Doug offered student assistance for withdrawals.
The SUL Metadata Subcommittee is going to create a shared bib FAQ based on the one Jimmie initiated. Jimmie needs Doug and Trey's additions before she forwards the document to the subcommittee.
Staff assignments have been adjusted to deal with an increase in problem Dewey items.
Jane Anne reviewed the list of post-merge clean-up activities. Naomi will distribute a list of fifty uncataloged items identified during the reclamation, many of which are serials.
Provider-Neutral monograph records
CMG discussed provider-neutral record creation for the material UF sends the Internet Archive to digitize. Currently, a link is added to the print bibs in Aleph, and a separate record is not created for the IA version. The categories of material sent to IA are retrospective theses/dissertations, government documents, brittle books, and deduplicated books. UFDC ingests the retrospective theses/dissertations and government documents. Jane Anne and Betsy will investigate the feasibility of creating provider-neutral records for the brittle and deduplicated books.
Madison Curry, an undergraduate, is doing an internship in CatMet during fall semester for credit. She'll work 12 hours/week doing copy cataloging.
