October 17, 2007
Attendees: Peter Bushnell, Jane Anne Carey, Jason Fleming, Jimmie Lundgren, Hikaru Nakano, Nancy Poehlmann, Betsy Simpson, Doug Smith, Priscilla Williams, Naomi Young
UFDC Workflow
There was a meeting with Digital Library and FCLA to talk about getting Digital Collection in Endeca. They discovered that records don’t have to be in Aleph. Mark will provide 5 test records for viewing within a month. There will be a notice when records are added for linking. Print and Electronic records should display beside each other. Only print record will display in Aleph. Are there enough resources to spend time to make sure Endeca and Aleph meet the needs of all patrons?
Link Checking
Link checking- Priscilla and Betsy met with Acquisitions. UF Scidoc was broken. Reports should be sent to Carol Harris.
856 working group
Jimmie has proposed to the Resource Navigation Committee that a cross-divisional task group be established to review the display of links in the catalog. Formerly, the Links Monitoring and Maintenance Committee performed this role.
Moving 856 links to 5xx fields
The display in Aleph version 18 and Endeca is good in terms of showing the subfield 3 terminology. The Library of Congress continues to put table of contents in 856 links in addition to embedding in the records.
853 subfield
Doug Smith noticed a problem in the 853 subfield. When using units in 853 subfield a with parenthesis, the unit with parenthesis displays in Endeca and repeats it. Gerald noticed a validation table problem. Daniel was contacted to fix the problem.
Move item and relink to holdings was resolved
Betsy will send message to catalogers. [see Moving Items in AlephPro]
OWN change
Jason is converting UF OWNs to PUBLIC, beginning with provisional records.
Gifts donors
A note for donors of material on holdings record should be displayed. This will help in the event of an overlay. Donors should be able to easily view donor information in the catalog, which is not the case when the information is included in a 590 field. Suggestions were made to use the 500/7xx fields with subfield 5 FU. [see Donor, Honoree, and Special Purchases in AlephPro]
Holdings in OCLC for CJK
Hikaru mentioned that she had discovered Chinese records created around the late 1990s that don't have holdings updated in OCLC, which she will fix.
