November 5, 2008
Attendees: Peter Bushnell, Jane Anne Carey, Jimmie Lundgren, Hikaru Nakano, Nancy Poehlmann, Betsy Simpson, Doug Smith, Priscilla Williams, Naomi Young
Bess De Farber
Unit managers introduced themselves to Bess. The grants manager works with Kelly Cunningham to submit mellon grants and she will also work closely with Grace to get budgets for planning purposes. She will be a mentor and planning facilitator for project development to help put together a proposal that is fundable. Bess will be partnering one on one with others. She will teach a class on grant writing. To request a grant proposal, you will need to fill out a 1 page template and send it to the grants committee.
Associate Dean interview
The candidates are scheduled to interview with technical services on the 17th and 20th from 2:00pm – 5:00pm. Preservations department will meet with the candidate for a tour at 2-2:45. Acquisitions staff will meet with the candidate at 2:45 – 3:25 and Cataloging will meet with the candidate at 3:25 – 4:05 followed by a break [this was modified post-CMG meeting]. From 4:20 - 5:00 the candidate will meet with Michele, Steve, Cathy, and Betsy. For the presentation and tour of the Catalog Department, Betsy will give an overview of the department and then each unit head will talk briefly about the work of their unit.
Shared Storage facility
Ben Walker met with the SUL tech services committee. What about the client and how it will work for the shared storage facility? FCLA has 3 main options on the table and CSUL will make the decision on which option to use. They are: Separate Aleph Instance with DLU01 approach; Single Bib with multiple ADMs; and Separate Sub-Library within UF.
Mark Sullivan is doing more mapping. Mark will identify certain categories of collections to see what needs to be adjusted.
Peter Malanchuk still wants the serials area backlog Africana material added to the catalog, so Nancy distributed. Nancy said that her unit is doing the last 300 of the Abraham rares.
There is no current practice to add links to holdings other than for donor material. Clean-up of existing holding links will be done by Betsy.
CMG approved removing the NOTIS-Aleph spreadsheets from AlephPro (see http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/alephpro/#N) in favor of linking directly to the Sublibrary/Collection lists at http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/toolbox/aleph/sublib_coll/
Cataloging service bulletin
Cataloger's Desktop will include issues going back to no. 84 during 2008 - 2009 year. CMG agreed to remove the print from the reference collection if the older issues are held in the depository collection.
Betsy is on the SOLINET list to receive dates of upcoming classes and she will forward this to each unit head. Bonnie explained that UF is a governing member of SOLINET and we will receive discounts for computer classes taken and each class is billed separately. The library could possibly pay for classes. Some classes are on-line and NEFLIN offers some as well.
