Description of Responsibilities:
The Links Monitoring and Maintenance Committee
will consist of staff from library units who have responsibility for maintaining
the accuracy and currency of linking fields on LUIS records. The Committee:

will monitor and keep current with linking
field issues and problems,
will keep the Smathers staff informed,
will recommend library-wide standards and policies for maintenance of linking field in LUIS records,
will draft procedures or test and respond to those drafted by others,
will review and revise existing policies and procedures as necessary
will recommend UFL policies and interdepartmental procedures for linking field concerns,
will develop and maintain standards for training for linking field input and maintenance.
The final product of the Committee will be
web-based documentation of policies and procedures for linking fields
on LUIS records and standardized (consistent) training for linking field
information on LUIS catalog records.

Issues to be addressed:
1. Review existing and recommended documentation.
2. Update procedures for inputting and maintaining linking field information
on LUIS records.
3. Identify and seek solutions to operational problems and recommend policy
and procedures review.
4. Review procedures for gathering and compiling statistics.
5. Develop and institute a training program for linking field input and
maintenance.
6. Input into decisions related to display of links.

Committee Role:
The Linking Fields Monitoring and Maintenance
Committee will be advisory, in that polices and procedures will be submitted
to Departments who have primary responsibility for approval prior to implementation.
This group will discuss, define and maintain a library-wide standard for
linking field use and maintenance in the Smathers Libraries. The
committee will have an educational role in that members will be trained
and instructed in standard procedures.
Meetings:
The Committee will meet at least once quarterly.
Minutes:
Brief minutes should be kept and promptly
posted on the RS web page, along with meeting agendas.
