LKR Policy Task Group
Final Report
October 27, 2005
CatMet Managers -
We the LKR Study Committee (Todd, Jimmie, Hank and myself) have concluded our work and now submit our findings to you.
We have concluded that use of the LKR field in local cataloging activities is both a viable and useful option, and we are ready to suggest a number of occasions when we believe use of the field locally would be especially useful.
Attached are five files, defined as follows:
lkrmeet1 = Meeting minutes for Aug. 17 committee meeting
lkrmeet2 = Meeting minutes for Sep. 13 committee meeting
lkrrept = Draft procedure for ALEPHPRO giving a general statement
on LKR use in ALEPH
lkrser = Todd's procedure appendix giving example of use of LKR
field in serial work
ITM link = Hank's procedure appendix giving example of use of LKR
field in Special Collections work
These five attached files summarize our findings and offer suggestions on how we may proceed to begin use of the LKR field locally.
We expect that eventually we will be entering into ALEPHPRO files that correspond to lkrrept, lkrser and ITM link above, and which will be respectively titled:
LKR Field Use in ALEPH Cataloging: Basic Procedure
LKR Field Use in ALEPH Cataloging: Example: Serials
LKR Field Use in ALEPH Cataloging: Example: Special Collections
For now, the drafts all need to be reviewed and updated as needed by you the Dept. Managers, and following review and updating and eventual approval, I can at that time enter them into ALEPHPRO using Contribute 3.
At this point, all of us on the committee hope that our findings will serve as a useful starting point for implementation of the LKR field in our local cataloging activities. If after reading the attached files, any of you have any questions, please let me or a committee member know.
Steve Fuquay
Chair, LKR Study Committee
