Monograph Copy Cataloging Committee
Meeting Minutes
June 7, 1999 9:00-11:00 p.m.
LW Conference Room
Present: Monica Aiton, Mary Gay Anderson, Jean Bostwick, Jackie Brown, Daniel Cromwell, Dot Hope, Tina Hughes, Marie Kennedy, Nelda Schwartz and Nancy Williams.
Jean Bostwick introduced Beatriz Lugo of the Law Library. She will be a member of our Committee.
The group raised the following questions and issues.
1. Can we get a current list of 9xx fields?
2. Where can we find a list of NOTIS function keys?
3. What about 210 field for indexes?
4. Can we use new fiction fixed field values? (Can't be validated in OCLC yet; ask Jackie Brown format questions);
5. Is everyone using CLARR? (Most copy catalogers use CLARR; others consult with Daniel Cromwell about installation and basic training);
6. European Union materials records in OCLC include a large number of UK records. (Assure the notes and subject headings are in English; if second indicator in a subject heading field is 4, change it to 0 and do "bam" on the record);
7. Does everyone know about Catalyst, the cataloging client being developed by FCLC? (Has neither CLARR functionality nor macros but does have merit; talk with Nancy Williams about a demo).Training steps and issues drafted by Jackie Brown, Marie Kennedy and Diana Hagan were distributed prior to the meeting. The group quickly reviewed the procedures. These procedures are available on the RS home page at http://web.uflib.ufl.edu/rs/catpro/catpro.html. RS Performance Standards are almost ready to be mounted on the RS home page as well. (See
http://web.uflib.ufl.edu/rs/rsd/perfstand.html)Diana Hagan will be asked to draft procedures for shared or member copy cataloging. Since Diana is one of our most junior copy catalogers, asking her to do this seemed appropriate. Jackie Brown will help as appropriate.
Originals and Enhances will not be covered at this time. These are outside the scope of our charge.
Dot will investigate setting up a listserv for sharing/exchanging copy cataloging information.
