OCLC Connexion is the name of OCLC's new cataloging interface. A Web-based version of the new interface will be introduced in July 2002. A Windows-based version will be introduced in July 2003. In December 2002 Passport for cataloging, the interface we use now for our technical work in OCLC, will no longer be supported by OCLC. In December 2003 Passport for cataloging will no longer be operational. A FAQ about OCLC Connexion is available at http://www.oclc.org/connexion/migrate/.

Resource Services has formed a task group whose charge is to evaluate the Web-based version when it becomes available this summer, then coordinate its implementation, including conducting a training session for staff throughout the library who need to know how to use the new service.

OCLC has announced that they will release the OCLC Connexion service in July. OCLC Connexion (www.oclc.org/connexion) integrates the functionality previously provided through CORC and CatExpress, as well as many of the features of the OCLC Cataloging service. The new service provides a connection to WorldCat, to other OCLC services, and to other libraries through the process of shared cataloging.

The first phase of the Connexion service includes a single, easy-to-use browser-based entry-point to help reduce training and support costs, automated features such as linked authorities to help enhance efficiencies, increased access to additional metadata formats, and the latest enhancements available immediately - with no software to install. The new service supports cataloging of all types of resources and will eventually replace all OCLC cataloging interfaces.

For more information about implementing Connexion in your library, please visit OCLC's web site at www.oclc.org/services/collections/migration. This site includes an updated migration timeline, and a new features spreadsheet that compares Connexion functionality to the features you currently use in Passport and CatMe. The features spreadsheet will be updated as new functionality is added to Connexion.
