The Contributed Cataloging Section, part of the Resource Services Department, is located in Room 300 of Smathers Library. The Section supports academic programs at the University of Florida by organizing, describing, and providing subject analysis for books, electronic resources, sound and video recordings, microforms, maps and other materials purchased or received by the various units of the Library system. The 11 librarians and 9 support staff work cooperatively in creating and contributing original cataloging records to OCLC as well as to the National Agricultural Library's AGRICOLA database. The Section adds to national quality control by contributing original name, series and subject records through the NACO and SACO programs. The Section includes three units: Science Cataloging Unit, Social Sciences Cataloging Unit and Special Collections/Humanities Cataloging Unit. Also included are the Authority Activities of ongoing maintenance.
