Mission
The staff of the H & SC Cataloging Unit are responsible for shared and original cataloging for the George A. Smathers Libraries in all formats of materials in literature, philosophy, religion, music, the fine arts, and Special Collections; in all languages, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Staff employ the latest computerized cataloging technology in the creation and maintenance of online cataloging records to provide the Libraries' patrons timely access to newly acquired and already cataloged materials. Staff also contribute original cataloging records to OCLC (Worldcat), the international bibliographic database, for the benefit of the library community; as well as participate in name and subject authority programs, including the national Program for Cooperative Cataloging.
