A guide to reference resources in African literature located in the Humanities and Social Sciences Reference area (Library West). Additional critical works on individual authors can be located by searching the library catalog:

MLA bibliography is an index to Critical works on modern literature including African Literature in journals books and dissertations. Paper counterpart of this index is shelved in the Index area.

General Academic Index, indexes articles in approximately 1500 scholarly journals and popular magazines in the arts, humanities, social sciences, science and technology. Abstracts are included for some articles. Provides access to ASCII full text of some articles. Full text articles are only available in the Library Catalog.

Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select and Dictionary of Literary Biography  provides  in-depth information on the lives and writings of nearly 100,000 authors, novelists, playwrights, short story writers, poets and other creative writers, along with critical reaction to their works. These indexes can be accessed via Galenet on our home page and can be searched simultaneously or one at a time. Contemporary Literary Criticism Select includes criticism of works by established authors who frequently appear on syllabuses of college literature courses. These sources are also available in the reference area in Library West.

of America and the African Literatures Seminar of the Modern Language Association, the journal includes bibliographies, scholarly articles on fiction, poetry and drama, new writers and literary development on the continent. Research in African Literatures is published quarterly and indexed in MLA, Humanities Index and Current Contents.
