"Published since January 2001, this free online monthly magazine covers a wide range of scientific issues concerning Africa. Each issue features a number of short pieces written by scientists with a general audience in mind...Science in Africa additionally includes information on upcoming science events, jobs, funding opportunities, and science education activities and opportunities. A free email newsletter is also available."

The International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications has a growing list of science-oriented African Journals On-Line, and a number of other resources that might be useful for your work.

ProMED, the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) policy initiative calling for global monitoring of emerging diseases, has the following active programs:

  • AHEAD/ILIAD
    Project of the Federation of American Scientists to promote greater understanding of the impact of animal and zoonotic disease on international security and to assist in establishing pro-active surveillance programs
  • The ProMED-mail reporting network at the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID).

Note that most of the science resources used by African Studies scholars are in the Applied fieldsGovernment agencies and NGO's are heavily involved in applied science applications in Africa, especially in the fields of public health and agricultural development.
