Collection managers have curatorial responsibility for classified parts of the Libraries' research collections, either at the primary or secondary level. The CM/LC/DDC link list which follows designates the primary and secondary management responsibilities of particular collection managers associated to specific LC and Dewey classifications.
The collection manager in charge of a collection housed in a branch, special or other separated collection, such as AFA, Price Library, H&SS Reference, etc. will always be the primary collection manager of the item regardless of its classification--i.e., location will take precedence over classification. In the Main and Science Library collections, the links list will define primary and secondary curatorial responsibility. The links list should be used generally to ascertain if a collection management decision affecting one location should be coordinated with other collection managers responsible for collections or items classified similarly but housed in other locations. These links cover both open and stored monographic and serial collections.
The CM/LC/DDC link list does not necessarily indicate primary collecting responsibilities but, rather, collection management responsibility. Therefore, it should be used in connection with missing item reports, storage and active collection reviews, brittle book reviews, and so forth.
