"Using Tags in a University Library: Pros and Cons"
As we contemplate using Tags in our catalog to allow users to assign keywords to records for retrieval we need to first consider several options. There is the issue of "sloppy tags", meaning tags which are malformed or have no extrinsic meaning. Security concerns in the wake of the AOL scandal will be considered as well (i.e. unintended consequences). The benefits of tagging will be highlighted and explored (Tag Clouds, Interest Timeline, Information Discovery). Plans for a UF tagging project will be discussed.
