Town Meeting Matters
Barbara Oliver will attend Wednesday's (2/7) Town Meeting. She will explain the University's restrictions on what discretionary recognition money may be used for. Brian will talk about what the money can be used for. Members of the Holiday Planning and Convocation Committees may participate in the discussion of those activities. We will have a sign-in sheet so that we can send a follow-up email to attendees. Dina, Laurie and Betsy have volunteered to take notes. Light refreshments will be served.
We discussed the Maritz survey: http://www.maritz.com/newsreleases/maritz-recognition.html. Betsy will incorporate some of the findings in her remarks. She will explain that we are trying to establish a "Culture of Recognition" and invite the audience to help us promote it. The Manager/Motivator and Power Feedback workshops are examples of this effort. We encourage people to volunteer for the Employee Recognition Committee.
After the meeting we will decide whether to hold a special meeting before our next regularly scheduled meeting in March to discuss and assess the event.
Employee Recognition Web Space
We discussed ideas about establishing a Web Space devoted to employee recognition. This might include news items featuring library staff, award recognition, and/or Weblog, Wiki or other method for employees to contribute content about their co-workers. The feasibility of having the HR web site host the content was considered. We will be discussing some of these items at the Town Meeting.
Awards
The committee agreed to look into the kind of awards that librarians and staff are eligible for from organizations such as ALA, ACRL, FLA, and UF. It was suggested that the our committee might serve as a clearinghouse for informing staff about award opportunities, encouraging nominations of library staff for awards, and for publicizing awards. Betsy, Dina, Laurie and Brett will compile lists of potential awards.
