Employee Recognition Committee Meeting
March 13, 2008
Library East Conference Room
Attendees: Laurie Brennan, Debra Fetzer, Barbara Hood, Brian Keith, Peter McKay, Lourdes Santamaria-Wheeler, Betsy Simpson, Ben Walker
The committee reviewed a submission and agreed to fund it and recommended expanding beyond the original request because of the significance of the honor to be celebrated. The submitter will meet with the honoree to discuss our suggestions.
UF’s accounting coordinator confirmed it is possible to use monetary gifts as awards as long as it is documented and the employee signs a statement acknowledging that it is taxable income. Awards for group winners were discussed and it was decided that if a group wins they will receive the dollar amount as a group and can choose how to spend it. Examples include a party, lunch, equipment or software purchase for a department, etc. Betsy will send this year’s budget to the committee so we will know if there will be enough funds within next year’s budget to absorb the cost of awards. We will ask Sam Huang, the new associate dean for advancement and development, to meet with us to discuss soliciting donations to be used for employee recognition and the possibility of a future endowment. The next step is to discuss with Dean Russell.
Four new members are needed for the convocation committee: three to replace outgoing members and one additional member from support services. To date Hikaru Nakano will replace Jason Fleming and Stephen Williams is the new member from support services. A faculty member and staff member from collection management are yet to be chosen. The convocation will take place on August 13, 2008 in Smathers Library, room 1A.
Betsy arranged a block of 25 seats for library staff and guests for the Sunday, April 20, 1:30 performance at Constans Theatre. The discounted tickets are $8.00 and can be purchased from Jennifer Ellenwood in Business Services with cash only. Tickets will be distributed when the block is sold. Barbara will send out an all-staff e-mail.
Employee Recognition Survey
Brian and Cathy Martyniak composed a survey seeking input on employee recognition funding and Judy sent to ARL institutions. Responses have been received and Brian will put them into the employee recognition committee’s public folder for review.
