Members Present: Michele
Crump, Cathy Mook, Martha Hruska, Erich Kesse, and Betsy Simpson1. Announcements
· There was some discussion about mail delivery concerns. Acquisitions is the only Technology Services Department with concerns that need to be addressed. Those concerns will be addressed with Bill Covey and the Library Facilities Planning Department.
· Swiki, a password guarded site, is being established by FCLA for Aleph documentation. Currently, Betsy Simpson is the contact person.
· The Administration Office Program Assistant vacant position is being filled.
· The Faculty Governance Exploration Team kick-off meeting will be held Thursday, November 17th and the Library Senators will attend. Minutes will be taken and posted on the Library Web site. Trudi DiTrolio has invited the team to attend the next Communications Committee meeting.
2. Updates
· Budget status
-
Materials budget - $2,758,271.62.
-
An attempt will be made to load the EBSCO invoice today. The Harrassowitz invoice has been tested and Acquisitions is waiting on the Swets Blackwell test file. When all testing and loading are complete the funds available in individual budgets should drop.
-
OPS budget reports have been distributed. Martha inquired about the possibility of sorting the report differently and to date has not received a response. She will also request the addition of a “allocation” column.
-
Dale Canelas has allocated and will be transferring $100,000 in UFF funds to purchase books.
-
The lack in materials budget is going to affect normal workflows therefore departments should begin identifying alternative projects that could be completed over the course of the year. A list should be compiled and will be ranked at the next TSMG meeting.
· Systems Liaison Program
-
The future of the Systems Liaison Program is being discussed and a couple different options are being considered. One option would have staff looped into Systems to keep up-to-date on hardware and desktop support and then a “super liaison” in each department would be responsible for providing individual specialized software support. No matter what option is selected, physically present expertise, especially functional software expertise, needs to be available in the departments.
-
Martha Hruska has suggested Library Council revisit the Staff Development Program that tried to identify layers of technical competencies and expertise required in the different departmental functional areas.
3. Discussion
· Space Assessments & Future trends
-
Technology Services departmental workspace assessment documents are available in Microsoft Outlook/Public Folders/TS Stuff.
-
Betsy Simpson noted that Cataloging and Metadata’s additional furniture request was for furniture based on forward thinking. However she will confirm if any furniture is urgently needed now.
-
If the library were to receive a building for TS operations, what would be the most important aspects to consider:
-
Security
-
Bandwidth
-
Bus route accessible - due to student employees
-
There is really not a need for other departments to be physically adjacent however the ability to visit the site would be required
-
SIDE NOTE: Can SFCC students be hired at the same rate as UF students?
-
How will Library East space be utilized when staff members move back to Library West? This question remains to be answered.
-
Martha Hruska will compile the individual assessments physical and central attributes into an overall departmental assessment and provide it to TSMG members. After that she will have it prepared for the Directors to forward.
-
It is not clear if Special Collections has begun the workspace assessment process.
