1.         Announcements

·         Martha Hruska will be on vacation July 7th – 11th.

·         Martha Hruska and other library staff met with FCLA to update the steps that have to happen to do the migration paths and load Version 15.5. A full load review for October seems to be definite.

2.         Updates/Status Reports:

a.                   Budget/Positions/Materials Budget

·         Budget

o       It appears that the library budget for 03-04 will be flat.  We have not received any word relating to cuts.

·         Positions

o       Paul Victor and Marina Saleedo have accepted positions in Reference.

o       John Nemmers has accepted the Descriptive and Technical Services Archivist position.

o       Paul Losch has accepted the Latin American Collection Descriptive Librarian position.

o       Attempts are being made to contact an applicant for the Resource Services position so that an offer can be made. Update: Julia Allen has accepted the position.

o       Position vacancy announcements for a Senior LTA and Senior Archivist in Resource Services should be posted in the near future.

·         Materials Budget

o       2003-2004 materials budget allocations are being based on 2002-2003 materials budget.

b.                  Systems/Networking

·         It seems that the sobig.e virus (the fifth variant of this virus) is being used as a spam deliverer since there has been a spike in the amount of spam that user receive when this virus is present.

·         Martha noted that in recent discussions about using voice/IP it was noted that spam is a downside of this option because it would then be possible for staff top get spammed over the phone.

c.         Building Plans

·         A Library West construction update is available at http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/pio/construction/update030629.html

·         Discussions continue between the architects, construction firm, and the libraries about whether staff as well as materials will be moved out of Library West during construction in an attempt to save time and money.

d.         Technology Services

·         Martha distributed the latest draft of the proposed Technology Services organization.  See below:

Software support

·         Martha will continue to look at what department Preservation should fall under.

·         It was suggested that “Information Management Operations,” be changed back to “Resource Services.”

·         Martha acknowledged that Electronic Information Programs department would need support staff.

·         It would be helpful if the CM Steers group met on a more regular basis and if a representative from the above departments attended those meetings. Many TS issues, especially those related to electronic resources, need to be discussed more broadly and routinely.

3.         SOLINET consulting day

·         Martha Hruska, Betsy Simpson, and Michele Crump spoke with SOLINET on Friday, June 27th about coming to UF in September to give an update on OCLC services.

·         Betsy Simpson will look at the OCLC authorizations that are currently being used.

4.         Electronic Resource Management

·         Docutek is being installed and will be used for electronic reserves. It may also be useful for electronic resource management.

·         Michele will have Jason and Doug review it.

·         A fax modem is still needed to bring it up.

·         It is not clear whether this program could take the place of a HERMES system as far as statistics are concerned.

5.         ALA news

·      Michele Crump attended a good session about minding the generation gap.
