University Libraries Committee
Category: The University Libraries Committee is a standing committee of the Faculty Senate.
Appointment: The Committee consists of nine (9) faculty and four (4) students. Faculty members are elected by the Senate from a slate of nominees that will represent distribution by academic rank and college. Two (2) graduate students are nominated by the Graduate Student Council and two (2) undergraduates are nominated by Student Government.
Term: 3 years staggered for faculty, 1 year for students
Chair: Nominated and elected by ULC members at the last meeting of the academic year.
Responsibilites:
A. The Committee shall assist the Director of University Libraries in maintaining and promoting the welfare of the University Libraries. It shall join with the Director of University Libraries to review and help formulate broad library policy and shall serve as an advocate for the University Libraries with the UF community.
B. The Committee shall keep the Director of University Libraries informed of the needs and concerns of the faculty and students and shall help to represent the interest of the Libraries to the faculty as well as to the University administration. The Director of University Libraries shall seek and weigh the Committee's advice with respect to problems and issues affecting the Libraries before deciding on changes in policy, and will report back to the Committee on the actions taken in response to the Committee's recommendations. To that end, the Director shall take appropriate initiatives to present matters of policy to the Committee in a timely manner, to provide the Committee with pertinent information about library operations and services and to meet with the Chair of the Committee frequently.
C. The Committee shall advise the Faculty Senate of its position on policy matters affecting the Libraries and about the state of the Libraries. It shall look broadly at the Libraries' role in the support of the University's teaching, learning and research programs. The Committee shall forward an annual report to the Faculty Senate, and provide other reports whenever either the Committee or the Senate thinks it advisable.
D. The Committee shall advise the University Administration of its position on policy matters affecting the Libraries and about the state of the Libraries. It shall look broadly at the Libraries' role in the support of the University's teaching, learning and research programs. The Committee shall forward a report to the University Administration whenever either the Committee or the Administration thinks its advisable.
