SUMMARIES OF BRITTLE BOOK GRANTS

NEH/RLG GCMP 2: CARIBBEAN BASIN

  • Our NEH/RLG GCMP2 Caribbean Basin Microfilming Project encompasses 5904 volumes of Caribbean Basin materials dating between (inclusive) 1850-1965. The date parameters were extended from 1950 to 1965 during the production schedule, and the volumes increased from 4500 because of savings realized through production efficiencies.
  • Paperwork for filming included preparation of filming targets, quality control reports, bibliographic records, technical information sheets and packing lists.
  • Prior to in-house filming, shipments were made on a monthly basis to the filming agent. Informational flags were inserted in volumes requiring special attention (fold-out, bound together, etc.) with paperwork kept separate from the volumes.
  • Filming concluded after two six-month extensions (in October 1993) with over 7700 volumes completed, in October 1993.
  • Cataloging on OCLC and NOTIS updating were completed in-house by Catalog Department staff.

SOLINET/ASERL: BRASILIANA and AFRICANA

  • Brasiliana
    • Our Brasiliana grant encompassed 1870 volumes of Brazilian materials dated (inclusive) 1850-1970.
    • Paperwork for filming included packing lists and bibliographical records.
    • The technical work was completed by SOLINET and their contracted filming agents.
    • Shipments were made biweekly to SOLINET, who completed processing.
    • Brasiliana Project was completed and Africana began immediately (as phase two) of this grant.
    • Cataloging on OCLC was completed by SOLINET staff and NOTIS updates were completed in-house by Preservation Department staff.
  • Africana
    • The Africana grant encompassed 2575 volumes of Southern African materials dated (inclusive) 1850-1970. An additional 425 volumes of Humanities titles were prepared to assist SOLINET's filming schedule.
    • Paperwork for filming included packing lists and bibliographical records.
    • The technical work was completed through SOLINET and their contracted filming agents.
    • Shipments were made monthly to SOLINET, which completed processing.
    • Africana Project was completed and Florida Writers Project began as phase three of this grant.
    • Cataloging on OCLC was completed by the SOLINET staff with NOTIS updates completed in-house by Preservation Department staff.

NEH/RLG GCMP 4: DEFOE and FRENCH DRAMA

  • Daniel Defoe
    • The NEH/RLG GCMP4 (Defoe and Robinsinades Grant) consists of filming 250 volumes of Daniel Defoe's material.
    • Paperwork for filming includes preparation of filming targets, quality control reports, bibliographic records, technical information sheets and standard packing lists.
    • Volumes were all filmed in-house and the project is complete.
    • Cataloging on OCLC and NOTIS updating were completed in-house by Catalog Department staff.
  • French Drama
    • The NEH/RLG GCMP4 (French Drama Grant) is for 660 volumes of the poetry and drama materials contained in this collection purchased by UF.
    • The collection was cataloged prior to filming.
    • Volumes were filmed in-house and the project is complete.
    • Cataloging on OCLC and NOTIS updating were completed in-house by Catalog Department staff.

SOLINET: Works Project Administration

  • The Works Project Administration Federal Writers' Program grant encompasses 1150 volumes of Florida History materials, including 350 Florida Writers Project titles and 800 other related titles.
  • Paperwork for filming includes packing lists and bibliographical records.
  • The technical work being completed through SOLINET and their contracted filming agents
  • Shipments are made monthly to SOLINET which completes processing.
  • Cataloging on OCLC was completed by SOLINET staff with NOTIS updates completed in-house by Preservation Department staff.
  • This grant is scheduled to conclude in 1997.

SOLINET: Theology Collections

  • The Kohler Victorian Theology Collection microfilming grant encompasses 2344 volumes of Special Collections materials for phase one.
  • Paperwork for filming includes packing lists and bibliographical records.
  • The technical work being completed through SOLINET and their contracted filming agents
  • Shipments are made monthly to SOLINET which completes processing.
  • Cataloging on OCLC is completed by SOLINET staff with NOTIS updates completed in-house by Preservation Department staff.
  • This grant began in June 1997.
