April 2004
I have been looking over http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/digital/collections/FLAP/ and I want to send congratulations - it's a great web site that provides a really valuable service. I plan to let GIS Users at SJRWMD know about it so they can start using it. We also tend to get quite a few questions from the general public, and we will be happy to point them in your direction when appropriate.
While browsing, I found a couple problems. I didn't know if you were the right person to tell, so if not, could you pass this on?
- Under the FL Counties link, I selected St. Johns County, then 1952, then Index Sheet 1. The image presented is Duval and Nassau Counties, with the Nassau River and northern edges of the St. Johns River, none of which touches St. Johns County. Some of the other index sheets for that year were Duval also.
- In the Instructional Guides page, I never got a response when I selected the "GIS To Go" links.
- Suggestion: The IMS p13 July, 2004 page
Again, I think this is overall a great web site - it must have been a huge job. I expect it will be very useful to staff in SJRWMD
Response:
Thank you so much for your comments. I'll try to answer your questions:
- Although the site is labeled Florida counties, it is really Florida flightlines. These flightlines are based more or less on counties but sometimes they cover regions and there is overlap to adjacent areas. The flight you are looking at is actually related to the St. Johns River area and not the county specifically. In order to provide some intellectual organization to the aerials and indexes, they were named on the basis of the main county covered. Unfortunately Index 1 that you looked at is really Index 2 and you can tell that from the lower right corner numbering; we will get that problem fixed immediately.
- As far as I can tell the GIS to Go link is working. Please let me know if you try it again and it doesn't link.
- I don't understand your comment IMS page should link to main photo library page. Although static aerial and index pages are useful, especially the index pages, we are hoping that most people will go in through the Map interface which is reached through the Search button off the top level page: http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/digital/collections/flap/. Obviously, this isn't clear, but if you can give me further direction here, I'll try and fix it.
Please as you use the site continue to send comments. Many thanks.
