How to Make Layers Visible or Active

Making Layers Visible
  • To make a layer visible on the map, check the box by the layer name.

  • The Legend shows you how that layer will display. Click between Layers and Legend as needed.

  • Layers are scale dependent means that you must zoom in before Township and Range and City Limits will display on the map.

  • After each change, click on the Refresh Map button.

Initially, four layers are visible.
The Legend shows you how they will display.

If you zoom in on the map, the "Scale dependent" layers of Township and Range and City Limits will display.

Township and Range are golden squares with the township and range number in the middle, e.g., 14S30E

For further information on Township and Range, go to TOWNSHIP, SECTION and RANGE.

How to make a layer active

Click on the round target to change the active layer.

  • Active layers allow you to search and view the database behind that layer.
  • Currently, the photo tile layer is active and you can find the data values related to the green dots.
  • Search Tallahassee in a City search and a yellow location dot will appear on the map and all photo tiles within the city limits will be listed below.
  • For detailed instructions on how to work with active layers go to "How to make a layer active and identify features."
