Digital Library Center Advisory Committee

The Digital Library Center focuses the Libraries' development of digital on-line collections, archived and accessible as part of the University Libraries’ permanent holdings.  The Center provides library and university researchers with electronic texts scanned from library, archival and museum collections.  These are indexed and marked-up for intuitive and effective use in instruction, distance education, and scholarly research.  Enhancement of the Libraries' role in electronic scholarly communications is a primary goal, reached through effective and responsive digitization, dissemination, and long-term storage of research and resource materials from the Libraries' collections.

CHARGE

The Advisory Committee is charged with advising the Center as it defines and implements goals, objectives and performance measures.  In particular, the Committee provides guidance in:

  • Development of productive partnerships with individuals and groups at University of Florida, as well as the academic and business community beyond the University;
  • Effective methods for profiling collections for digitization and identification of funding opportunities for digitization projects; and
  • Effective programs for marketing and distributing digital products and their offprints.

The Committee also reviews the Center’s implementation of:

  • Standards-based services and production, with specific attention to criteria for selection, development, and use & testing; and
  • Quality assurance in capture or conversion, and value-added enhancement through indexing or mark-up, together with long-term storage and maintenance of digital collections.

And, it is responsible for production of an annual report, detailing its activities in support of this charge.
