Digital Library Center Documentation: Born Digital News

Born Digital Newspapers are ingested through drives mailed from publishers and through web downloads (of the actual newspaper pages--these are born digital print files, not adapted for web only).

Currently (January 2009), the newspaper coordinator is processing the born digital versions of the Gabber and the Venice Gondolier. The newspaper main assistant will process the other born digital files following the internal directions (directions for local access only).

Text of letter to newspaper publishers to request digital files:

Dear PUBLISHER

YOUR NEWSPAPER is preserved and made accessible through the Florida Digital Newspaper Library, supported by the University of Florida Digital Library Center. We currently digitize from the print editions of your paper. We also accept digital files, which allow us to archive and preserve much higher quality images. Do you have digital files for current and past issues?

We can accept the majority of digital file formats (Adobe InDesign, Quark, PDF, and many other files sent to printers). We can accept files by DVD or hard drives sent by mail or FTP. Please let us know if we should mail a hard drive for you to load your digital files to.
