Dell Setup Program
- At the first power-up, the Dell setup program will automatically launch.
- Enter (or check) the key or service tag.
- Check the service tag number on the screen versus the number on the case.
- Windows will start up: accept the agreement.
- For Personalizing Your Software, enter Digital Library Center as the customer first name (or user name) and UF Smathers Libraries as the last name (or organization name).
- For the computer name, enter the WSID, including the "WSID".
- For the Administrator password, take care to enter it correctly.
- For the Date and Time Settings, select auto adjust for daylight savings. For some reason, the Dells hang for a minute or two at this point.
- Under Network Settings, select Custom Settings | Next.
- Under Network Components, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) |Properties.
- Check Use the following IP address, and enter:
- IP address 128.227.223.xxx (the host number)
- Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- Default gateway 128.227.223.1
- Check Use the following DNS server addresses, and enter:
- Preferred DNS server 128.227.128.24
- Alternate DNS server 128.227.16.3
- Select Advanced | WINS | Add....
- Enter 128.227.10.99 under WINS address.
- Windows XP: You will have to add the WINS later on.
- Windows XP: Just say no to registering with Microsoft.
- OK, etc.
- Restart.
- When the Network ID Wizard prompts for Users of this computer, select users must enter a name and password..., then Finish.
- Windows XP: There will be a prompt for Who will use this computer?. Do not use a network login name, make up a temporary name instead.
- Login as Administrator.
