DLC Lister

Searching for a BibID and VID

Technical Background

When you Lister a drive, it records the full path names of all folders that have at least one TIFF or DCR file in them, and writes that path to a text file in a format like this:
E:\QC\UF00001234\VID00001

So when Lister does a search, it has a database of multiple text files to search through, looking to match on substrings like "UF00001234\VID00001".

Lister searches are case-insensitive.

How to Search

When you click on Search and then select Find a BibID and VID, you see the search dialog box, which looks like this:

By default, 00001 appears in the VID text box. You do not need to enter the "VID" part of a VID folder name: Lister understands that it may or may not have "VID" in it.

Now when you click Search!, Lister takes the contents of the first box and the contents of the second box, puts a slash in between them, and then goes a-searchin'.

So if you enter this:

Lister will look for both UF00001234\00001 and UF00001234\VID00001 all through its database of text files.

Now if you do not want a particular VID (you just want to find the whereabouts of a BibID), then leave the VID box blank.
This example will return the locations of all VIDs for UF00001234 that Lister finds in the database:

(see example results box below)

If you leave the 00001 in there, then Lister will only look for that one VID.

The big secret:

Actually, Lister looks for whatever you type into the first box if you leave the second box blank. It does not have to be a valid BibID. It could be any folder name. So if you know that you moved some packages to a "FLAG" folder somewhere, just type "FLAG" or "flag" in that first box, leave the second box empty, and Lister will show you all occurrences of folders with that name.

So an entry like this:

will return results like this:
