Perl Interpreter

If the user needs to run Perl programs (.pl files), then they will need ActiveState's Perl interpreter.

First, see if they already have it:

  1. Select Start | Run...
  2. Enter cmd.
  3. Enter perl -v.

If the command is not 'recognized' then Perl must be installed.

However, if it does recognize the command and print out a bunch of text about Perl, but the version number is less than 5.8, uninstall that old interpreter from the Add/Remove dialog box, and install the latest.

This installation routine takes about four minutes, and no restarting is necessary:

  1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to SmathersNT12\DLC\Software\ActivePerl.
  2. Double click the MSI file.
  3. Click through the wizard, and accept all the defaults.
