Power Options
Per the Systems department, all workstation computers must be on all the time.
(This does not apply to the other devices, just the CPU box.)
This involves two things. Obviously the device has to be plugged in and turned on electrically. But also, since operating systems can turn computers off by themselves after a certain amount of time, the power options must be set properly.
- Log on to the workstation (not the network) as Administrator (not yourself).
- Select Start | Settings | Control Panel | Power Options, then the Power Schemes tab.
- Under Power Schemes, select Always On.
- Under Settings for Always On power scheme, select Never and Never, then click OK.
- Select the Hibernate tab, and uncheck the Enable Hiberation box.
You may notice later on, under other user's logins, that the power options are set to Windows' defaults, not those above. Worry not, Grasshopper-- when the machine is logged off, it will obey the Administrator's settings.
